Technology Boot Camp: This is I.T.
All classes will include hands-on practical work in a PC/Mac lab.
Ever wondered how to make your home network hacker-proof, especially from the brainy teen next door? Did you know you could build a hi-speed A/V media server using free software tools and an obsolete PC for pennies? How about designing a ‘killer’ web site and hosting it for free? Or streaming your personal iTunes music collection for instant access from across the room or across the world? The Technology Boot Camp does all that—bringing the world of exotic technology to “normal” people, not just geeks and nerds who understand all that technical jargon. Sure, we’ll talk about technical stuff, but in a REAL fashion, from the practical perspective of a real-world user. The Technology Boot Camp will demonstrate exciting possibilities of how technology can enhance and enrich your life, providing you with information, tools, and advice that help you get the most out of technology. Most of all, you’ll learn how to be self-sufficient in the world of technology, and have fun while doing it.

A Cup of Java—Computer Programming
Control your computer and those of others, too. Learn basic computer programming skills with the Java programming language and let your computer know who is the master! Go wild with Java applets to create interesting games and applications. This course will introduce you to Java technology and teach basic Java syntax and concepts, leading to the creation of simple programs. You’ll get hands-on training through the essential concepts and features of the Java Programming Language, focusing on exceptions, basic input/output, concurrency, regular expressions, Java collections framework and the platform environment. An entertaining and thought-provoking course, it presumes no prior knowledge of computer programming, requiring only a bright mind and a fascination with things technical.
