President’s Letter

I can not believe that the academic year is winding down and the 2009/2010 Brunswick Parents Association is wrapping up its responsibilities for the year. This has been a fantastic year and I am sorry to see it end. We have had the most incredible group of parents serving on the BPA and we have accomplished all we set out to do. My best wishes go out to our incoming President, Julie Johnson, and her team. We can expect many great things from this new and talented group.

A very special thank you to Ginger Craft and Grace Wales for a super successful and exciting benefit, “That’s Entertainment.” Wow, what a night! The monies raised will go to the newly established TLC Fund – Teachers Learning Continuously and will provide financial resources for educational opportunities beyond the classroom. Thank you also to the Winged Foot Golf Chairs, Dani Virtue, Bridget Queally and Eileen Grasso; the Art Tour Chairs, Christina Kazazes and Cynthia Chang Scanlon, and the Tuition Raffle Chairs, Lili O’Malley, Susannah Prout and Colleen Schneider. You are quite the team.

On behalf of the BPA, I would like to express my gratitude to all the parents who took part in volunteering in some way at our school. We could not have achieved half of what we did without you – thank you all!

It has been an absolute privilege serving as your President. I have had the opportunity to serve a school that I love and have made many wonderful friends in the process.

With thanks,

Anne Castine
President, Brunswick Parents Association

Assemblies

During March, Michael Fosberg visited the Upper School to perform his autobiographical play titled “Incognito.” “Incognito” is a play about Michael’s journey of self-discovery. The audience was on the edge of their seats as Michael shared what he discovered while investigating his family roots, and explained how this discovery impacted his life.
On April 8th, the Middle School was visited by Freestyle Repertory Theatre, a troupe of improvisational actors. Their program is designed as a competitive sport with two teams of actors challenging each other to create scenes, songs, stories and poems based on suggestions from the audience and with some audience participation.   The show was a big hit with the MS boys! FSR will be performing for the LS boys in May.
In April, the Truck Farm (a mobile community farm) took their show on the road to celebrate Earth Week. During a stop at Brunswick’s King St. campus they showcased their farm and film regarding urban agriculture for the Middle School and Lower School boys.
Also in April, Singer and performer Dre Towey performed for the Brunswick Pre School boys and their guests, Greenwich Academy’s Pre Schoolers.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your assembly representatives this year. We have enjoyed our roles and hope your boys enjoyed the shows!

Upper School Performing Arts
Baker Theater was a beehive of activity throughout the year, the second that this stunning facility has been in use at Brunswick.

Congratulations to the numerous student thespians, vocalists, and instrumentalists whose exciting performances have brought life to the Upper School stage and have entertained standing-room-only audiences!  Many thanks to all the arts faculty and to Chair of Visual and Performing Arts, Andrew Hall, for their tireless efforts and their dedication to promoting the growth of an outstanding performance program at Brunswick!  To the countless parents who have so generously given of their time and talents in support of Upper School music and dramatics, a heartfelt thank you!

A Fall 2010 School Calendar Heads Up from the Administration
Please note the following dates for next fall: Friday, September 3rd is New Student Orientation and Tuesday, September 7th, is the opening of school.

Used Book Buy Back
In May, we will be posting on the Brunswick website a list of books that we would like to buy back. Last year, we were able to sell more used books to students than in previous years because of our buy back program. It is a win-win for everyone! You get a credit on your son’s bookstore account, and it helps us keep the cost of books down. We are not able to accept books that are in poor condition, have a lot of highlighting, annotating or older editions. Books must be returned by Friday, June 11th. Please know that we are making every effort to find ways to keep the cost of books down and greatly appreciative your support!

Gifts from the Bookstore
Also, think of the Bookstore if you are in need of end of year gifts or graduation presents. We have lots of fun items! Don’t forget our new Brunswick vineyard vines flip-flops!
