Senior Fund

Senior Fund

It is a tradition at Brunswick for the Senior Class to provide a meaningful parting gift to the School. This substantial gift from each senior parent commemorates and celebrates the years their son enjoyed at Brunswick.  The Class of 2010 is being given the opportunity to name the Upper School Art Gallery as its Senior Fund gift.  The main art gallery on the Maher Avenue Campus will be named in honor of the Class of 2010 when the goal of $800,000 is met by June 15, 2010. Andrew Hall, the Arts Department chairman, is charged with designing a unique and permanent plaque on behalf of the entire class that will be displayed at the Performing Arts Center entrance.

The Class of 2009 Senior Fund endowed a full scholarship in honor of  beloved faculty member, mentor and coach  Robert L. Cosby, who passed away unexpectedly in February 2004. The Class of 2009 Cosby Scholar is a touching legacy for perhaps one of the last classes of boys who knew and loved Mr. Cosby.  The Class of 2009 parents raised $801,790, with 95% participation, to fund the annual tuition and fees for a deserving young man meeting the criteria of a “Cosby Scholar.”

The Class of 2008 Senior Fund exceeded their $1,000,000 goal and the atrium entry space in the renovated Upper School was  named for that class.  Over 90% of the parents participated.  The Class of 2007 Senior Fund goal of $1,000,000  was exceeded and the fund reached $1.2 million.  This money will be directed to faculty housing on the Maher Avenue campus.  100% of the senior parents participated.

The Class of 2006 endowed "The Class of 2006 Award for Program Excellence" and met its Senior Fund goal of $1,000,000.  This award, which is approximately $40,000 a year, will be given to a department for a term of three years.  The purpose is to encourage each department to strive for excellence whether through incorporating new training, courses, equipment or ideas into the curriculum.  The language department is the current beneficiary and the money is being used to start teaching Arabic.

The Senior Fund committee for the class of 2005 raised $583,210, with 98% of the parents participating.  That money endows an annual lecture or lecture series. The photo at the right is of former President of Poland, Lech Walesa (with Headmaster Tom Philip) who spoke to the Upper School in April 2006.   In the fall 2006 Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager portrayed in  Hotel Rwanda, spoke to the US boys and faculty.  Spring 2007 brought Coaches Herman Boone and Bill Yoast from Remember the Titans to campus and in the fall of 2007 Carl Bernstein spoke to the boys.  The 2008 speaker was Presidential historian Bechloss, a timely pick in a presidential election year.  Economist Barry Asmus was the 2009 speaker in this series, pictured to the left.

The classes of 2004 and 2003 both designated their gifts to build faculty homes on the King Street campus. Each class met or exceeded it goal of $750,000 and $650,000 respectively with 100% participation.
