May/June 2008
From Eleanor Lindberg:
As I sit down to write this, my final newsletter, I find myself faced with the stark reality that the end of an incredible journey is fast approaching. My decision to retire after 28 years of service was a difficult one to make and one that is filled with mixed emotions. I love Brunswick, I love what I do and I love the boys and adults with whom each day I share my enthusiasm for learning. While excited about the opportunities that retired life has in store for me, I must admit that I find it hard to imagine life without Brunswick. Nevertheless, I am confident that the incredible memories I am fortunate enough to be taking with me will forever nurture and fill me with joy. In addition, it is extremely comforting to know that two dear friends and colleagues, Gina Hurd and Katie Signer, will each be assuming my responsibilities as Head of the Pre School and Lower School respectively. Without a doubt I know that great things will come from the leadership of these two extremely capable and dedicated women and I wish them well. In closing I want to express my sincere gratitude to the entire Brunswick community for the love and support you have shown me throughout the years. Please know that you will always hold a special place in my heart and I will miss you all very much.

Arts Night 2008! The arts continue to be an important and intrinsic part of each boy’s Brunswick experience. Please save the date, Wednesday, May 14, when the entire Lower School will come together to recognize and applaud the musical and artistic talents of our boys. The festivities will begin at 6:30pm in the Burke Field House with a lively, upbeat musical concert entitled “Six Decades of Swinging Music.” Following the concert everyone is invited to rendezvous in the LS atrium where you will have an opportunity to browse and admire the art that each boy will be exhibiting. It promises to be an entertaining event for the entire family so be sure to mark the date on your calendars.
A Boy’s Dream Come True! An evening of games and entertainment followed by a sleepover in the Lower School with your homeroom teachers . . . what a great way to end the year! Third and fourth grade parents will have a chance to bid on this memorable experience at our gala Benefit auction on May 10. The entire Lower School faculty, including our Phys. Ed. team, will be hosting this special event for the lucky grade that wins.
Closing Exercises will provide us with an opportunity to celebrate the year and bid farewell to friends and teachers. Special recognition and congratulations are offered to our Kindergarten and Fourth Grade boys for having successfully completed their years in the Pre and Lower Schools. We wish them continued success and happiness as they prepare to meet the challenges that a new division has to offer. These boys will be our guests of honor at the following ceremonies. Pre School Closing, Thursday, May 29, 10:30am (note time change): All boys should arrive at their classroom a half hour early at 10:00am. Pre Kindergarteners should be dressed in slacks and a shirt and Kindergarteners in jacket and tie. Lower School Closing, Friday, May 30, 10:30am (note time change): All boys are required to attend our closing ceremony. Dressed in jacket and tie, they should arrive at their classroom a half hour early at 10:00am. If you are unable to attend, please pick up your son at 12noon. There will be no bus service this day.
Report Cards will be mailed home mid-June. Also, third and fourth grade ERB test results will be arriving some time in June. If you would like a copy of your son’s results, please notify the Lower School office and we will mail them to you.
Summer Work: Boys will be bringing home their summer work packets the last week of school. Please review these materials and directions with your son and make sure that his work is completed to the best of his ability before returning in September. Many thanks for your help and support.
On behalf of the Lower School staff and faculty I wish you a happy, restful and safe summer. I’ll be thinking of everyone in September.
