The computer is a viable tool of creativity, learning, communication and scholarship. The K-12 computer curriculum incorporates three approaches to "computer as a tool":
- Students will learn how to use the tool. (Include a broad spectrum of widely used and powerful software applications. Emphasize Communication and Discussion, Information Gathering and Research, Creativity and Self-Expression, Analysis of Information, Presentation of Ideas and Information, and Problem Solving.)
- Students will learn when to use the tool. (Utilize a variety of contexts that include multi-disciplinary and real-world examples.)
- Students will learn how the tool works. (Study computer science and computer programming.)

The goal of the Technology Department is to graduate students who, at the very least, will have a basic understanding and familiarity with the workings and uses of computers, but in the ideal will become leaders in applying the power of the tool to their chosen professions.
As an IT staff, the Technology Department hopes to facilitate the integration of technology into all academic disciplines. Aside from service and support for the hardware and network architecture, we aspire to a role of creative consulting where the use of technology is concerned.
