The Middle School Latin program is a three year sequence which begins with an exploratory language course in the sixth grade, required for the entire grade. This survey course, which investigates the extent and depth of influence of the Latin language on our modern languages, includes history and mythology units, and uses the Cambridge series as its introductory text. The sixth grade curriculum leads into the seventh and eighth grade courses, centered on the Oxford Latin series and including a comprehensive preparation for the high school Latin II curriculum. Also offered, with approval of the class deans, are two early-morning Latin seminar courses, one for seventh grade and one for eighth. These tutorial-based classes are optional, sixth courses for students with solid language skills and are designed to prepare students for the high school Latin II curriculum.
