Digital Literacy: Education in the Information Age…
Information technology is transforming the global economy and drastically changing the way business and society operates. There must be a corresponding adaptation in education to ensure that our students have the necessary skills to thrive in the digital age. Understanding how to employ technology to locate and evaluate information, to learn, reason, make decisions, solve problems, and to collaborate and work in teams will be essential abilities in the rapidly changing world. Brunswick has made a serious and significant investment in these skills, curricula and accountability, to meet the challenge of developing 21st century learners for a 21st century workforce.
To achieve this new dimension in learning—and, above all, to enhance the performance of students—schools must do more than just wire up classrooms. Brunswick is at the forefront of such initiatives - preparing our students for the world of tomorrow by taking the next step of helping our teachers integrate digital tools and content into the curriculum. Brunswick’s instructional program strives to teach students technology skills within the context of the core curriculum. Developed with the input of classroom teachers, the curriculum is packed with tutorials, lessons and projects that were carefully designed to help students learn today's most important software applications.
The mission of Brunswick’s Technology Department is to provide ‘cutting edge’ technology products and related services, which support our community to better utilize technology to achieve improved teaching, learning, leadership and administration. To this end, all students in ninth grade and above purchase or lease laptop computers which are used in the classroom on a daily basis.
Brunswick’s Technology Department facilitates the integration of technology into all academic disciplines by pulling together the many threads of information available in an electronic venue. We aspire to optimize student learning by providing professional development, technical assistance and ongoing support for the effective, appropriate and visionary use of technology.
