General Brunswick Information

How old is the school?

Brunswick was started by George Carmichael in 1902 with 14 boys in a two room building. Check out the history of the School at http://www.brunswickschool.org/article/view/3273/1/398/.

What are the school hours?

School starts at 7:45am for the UpperSchool, 8:15 for the Middle School and Lower Schools and 8:00 for the PreSchool. There are some clubs and performing groups that meet prior to the start of school. The day ends between 3:30 and 5:30 depending on the division and after school sports.

What is the dress code?

The LowerSchool boys wear khaki slacks, white shirts and brown sweaters. Middle and UpperSchool boys wear sport coats, slacks and ties.

How many students?

There are approximately 875 boys at Brunswick . There are 32 pre-k students, and 48 Kindergarteners. Lower School grades average 51 boys each, Middle School are 65 to 72, and Upper School are about 80 boys.

What is the teacher/student ratio?

There are 155 faculty including 22 intern/assistant teachers, which works out to a teacher/student ratio of 1 to 6.

What is the geographic make-up of the student body?

Greenwich residents make up 68% of the student population; 17% are from other towns in FairfieldCounty and 13% are from WestchesterCounty.

Are all students day students?

Yes, we have no boarding facilities.

What is the percentage of diversity students and teachers?

For the 2006-2007 school year 14.5% of the student body is classified as diverse and 10.6% of teachers are considered diverse.

Is there any religious affiliation?

The School has no religious affiliation and students, faculty and staff of all religious backgrounds are welcome as part of our community.

What foreign languages are taught?

Spanish is taught starting in Pre-Kindergarten. In Middle School the boys are given the option to continue with Spanish or switch to French or Chinese. Latin is required in addition to their modern language in 6th grade. Boys choose one full-time language in 7th and 8th grades but can continue with Latin an additional option taken along with a modern language. In the UpperSchool the modern languages are Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic and Italian as well as the classical languages, Latin and Greek.

What sports are offered?

There are more sports offered in the UpperSchool than the Middle School. Inter-scholastic competition starts in the 7th grade.

Are all boys required to participate in sports?

Yes, sports are required for all students every season. In the Lower School the boys participate in physical education classes. 5th and 6th graders play intra-mural team sports, seasonally. Interscholastic competition begins in the 7th grade. Upper School students have both interscholastic and intra-mural options. Brunswick strongly believes in developing healthy bodies along with academic and artistic achievement.

General Admission Questions

What is the deadline for the application?

There is some flexibility for extraordinary circumstances, but generally, December15th

When are the decisions made?

Notification letters are mailed the last Friday in February.

Are the applications on a first-come basis?

No, applications are reviewed during the month of February. Acceptance is not rolling but rather decisions are made by March 1st.

What are the key admission grades for entry?

The specific entry points are grades pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 5th, 6th, 9th and 10th grades. There may be limited entry at other grade levels.

What is the tuition?

Tuition varies by grade level with Pre-K tuition at $21, 200, Grades K-4 at $24,400, Grades 5-8 at $25,600 and Grades 9-12 set at $27,000.

What are the financial aid policies?

Financial aid is awarded on a need basis only. There are no merit based scholarships.

How does one apply for Financial Aid?

When are the Open Houses?

There are two admission receptions held in the fall for prospective families to tour the facility and talk with faculty. The receptions are for the Pre, Lower and Middle Schools. UpperSchool candidates and their families are given tours, by appointment, during school hours.

When can we make an appointment to visit?
