Community Service Efforts

On Friday Oct 17 the Middle School boys and faculty had the first of three community service fundraisers.  For the  third year money was collected to donate to the fight for a cure for breast cancer.  In past years between $1300 and  $1550 were raised.  This year's total was $1820!  The boys were allowed to dress down, wear “civies”, if they wore something pink or red and brought in a donation for breast cancer.  The Komen Foundation was the recipient of these funds.  Erin Withstandley organized the effort and,  when asked about boys wearing pink,  she replied that alums Shep and Ian Murray had made that very easy with the Vineyard Vines clothes so favored by Brunswick boys.  Erin thanked those involved in an email to Middle School faculty saying, “thanks so much to everyone for supporting the Passionately Pink fundraiser.  We could never have raised so much money ($1,820) without your help encouraging the boys to participate.  The Komen Foundation and all those who benefit from its services will be that much better off because of your efforts.”

This Middle School community service effort is one of three during the course of the school year.  Faculty or students can suggest a worthy cause and the heads of Community Service, Steve Polikoff and Marcus Chioffi, will help set up the Middle School-wide effort
