Safety Procedure Plan

During the past year, the School has taken several steps to update its Safety and Emergency Procedures Plan.

Specifically, many faculty and staff have each been assigned to (and have rehearsed) specific roles to carry-out in the event of an emergency. We have expanded the capabilities of our Fire Alarm system to accommodate both emergencies which would necessitate exit from our buildings as well as emergencies which would require students to stay in their classrooms. We have also refined our procedures for taking student attendance and coordinating dismissal from School. Most recently precautions were taken, as practicable, to keep auxillary doors locked and direct all visitors through main entrances for each division. Visitor ID badges are now required.

In addition, we have developed a Communication Plan to alert our parent community in the event of an emergency and to provide parents with instructions as to student pick up at our campuses.

With regard to the latter, in the event of an emergency, we will do our best to communicate with you via telephone (phone chains are in place) and e-mail (to the extent that you have provided us with your e-mail address), and posting information on the School's website.

Of course, whenever you have a change in your contact information, please advise us promptly (fax to 625-5816 or e-mail to mmccowie@brunswickschool.org).

Thank you for your attention to this matter and your related help. Naturally, we hope we never need to implement any aspect of this Plan, and no plan of this sort will be as fool proof as we would all like, but with your help we feel we are much better prepared today than we were on 9/11.
