Snow Procedures
With the possibility of some inclement weather this evening/tomorrow morning and the recent experience of last week's unanticipated snow fall, it seems sensible to again outline the School's policies and procedures regarding weather-related cancellations or delayed openings. As a general-rule, school delays and cancellations are predicated upon the judgement of the Town of Greenwich bus service which is informed by input from the state and local police. In most situations, Brunswick is alerted of a cancellation or delayed opening in the early morning of a given school day (around 5:00am) and after consultation with our colleagues at Greenwich Academy, we endeavor to reach a joint course of action and then send out that notice as follows: - Automated response on the School's phone line (203) 625-5800. - Alert on the main page of the Brunswick School web-site. - Automated phone calls which we strive to have reaching most/all homes at or around 5:30am. - US students and all Faculty are also alerted via e-mail. In the event of a weather-related early dismissal, all the above also applies (in that any decision to dismiss school early is largely a factor of what the Town of Greenwich Schools (and busses) are doing) and our attempts to alert our parent and student body are much the same as outlined above. Finally, as is the case with weather and other events largely beyond our control, there will be days such as last Thursday when snow began to fall in Greenwich at around 7:00am, a time during which both busses as well as parents were already on their way to school. On such days, as at all times, we urge parents to use their own judgement. Even if the roads are passable in Greenwich, depending upon where you live and what the weather pattern is, your situation might be quite different. Never hesitate to make any decision that you feel is the best and safest for you and your children and simply alert the appropriate division office via phone or e-mail if you have decided to keep your son at home. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact your son's division office.
